About Us:

Utah’s Hogle Zoo dates from 1931 and is located at the mouth of Emigrations Canyon. The Zoo is one of the most-visited attractions in Utah and the top paid-for tourist attraction in Salt Lake City. Its natural terrain covers 42 acres of tree-lined pathways where visitors can view over 800 animals. 2012 was a banner year for the Zoo featuring the opening of Rocky Shores which helped the Zoo reach a new record in yearly attendance: over 1.2 million visitors!

In 2014 Hogle Zoo opened African Savanna – a 4+ acre exhibit featuring the giraffe, zebra, nyala and ostrich mixing and mingling on the grasslands, while African lions look on from Lions’ Hill. The popular Zoofari Express train also returned with the opening of Savanna and features a new eco-friendly engine, wider seats and is now handicapped accessible.

The Zoo continues to strive to provide a safe, fun and educational venue for our visitors.  You can read the Zoo’s mission and get information about planning a visit to the Zoo. Don’t miss Asian Highlands which is an amazing re-creation of a Himalayan village and houses five endangered species of Asian cat, including the largest big cat, the Amur tiger. Also on your must-see list is the Elephant Encounter exhibit which features African elephants and white rhinos. Children will love the Conservation Carousel as it lets them ride on unique, hand carved and painted models of endangered or threatened animals. With the opening of Rocky Shores, the Zoo welcomed back several of its most popular animals – polar bear, sea lions, grizzly bears, harbor seals and river otters. As part of Rocky Shores over 400,000 gallons of water are filtered and recycled in the various exhibit pools, allowing spectacular views of the animals above and below water. Guest will also enjoy cooling off during the summer months at our Lighthouse Point Splash Zone where a blow hole sprays water and tide pools can be explored. Parents can relax as their children enjoy the lighthouse slide, discover a ship wreck and of course get slightly wet!

Be sure to grab a seat for the World of Flight bird show doing summer months, and enjoy fresh, house-made grub at the Beastro.
